ABOUT US Gerlinger Steel in Redding was established in 1929 when Fred Gerlinger Sr., with his son Bert, bought and rebuilt the burned out Foundry & Machine Shop that was in operation from 1906 to the mid 1920's. The Steel and Industrial Supply Division was added by purchasing the remainder of the McCormick Saeltzer "Big Store" inventory that was salvaged when the Store burned in the late 1930's. In the 1940s and 50s serving large construction, such as Shasta, Trinity, and Whiskytown water projects, the business expanded with the demand for metals, fabrication services, industrial hardware and equipment. The 1960s and 70s saw growth of the large sawmills as well as the sand and gravel producers. Inventories and capacities were enlarged to supply these and other new customers. In the early 1980s inventories and machinery were adjusted to better supply the Sacramento Valley agricultural industry, state, and other local area municipal needs. Large capacity shears, brakes, rolls, and flame cutting machines were acquired. The Sacramento location was added in the early 1990's when the company acquired the metal processing equipment and facility of "Sacramento Pipe Works". The mid-90's brought the addition of more processing equipment for Sacramento. This has helped us to serve the upper Sacramento Valley better, saving time and costs for our Customers. The Nevada City location also was acquired in the late 1990's to supplement service to the Sierra foothills and our Used Machinery Services. Our sales and delivery staff cover territory up to Northwestern California the north, central California to the south, the East Bay area to the west, and Northeastern California to the east. Our machinery sales serve customers from the Canadian border to Southern California and over to the Rocky Mountains.
